Voices (2022)

The Human Rights Foundation reports that more than half of the world’s population lives under authoritarian rule. Such governments often silence dissent in order to establish and maintain power, and those who speak out against them face harassment, imprisonment, or even murder.

Voices is built from recordings of people living under these regimes, speaking about their hopes and aspirations for their homelands. The megaphone, a tool common at protests, serves as a symbol of speaking out.

I am deeply grateful to everyone who helped collect and produce these recordings. Their anonymity is essential to their safety.
